ABOUT

Jules Fitz Gerald is a writer, teacher, and book critic. Her stories appear or are forthcoming in The Southern Review, Bennington Review, A Public Space, Wigleaf, The Common, Salamander, Witness, and elsewhere. Her flash-fiction story "Orientation" won the 2024 Stories Out of School contest judged by Karen Russell. Other honors include being selected for a Fulbright grant in creative writing and a Lighthouse Works fellowship.

She earned her MFA in fiction at the University of Pittsburgh and is an alum of workshops at McCormack Writing Center, Oregon Literary Arts, Napa Valley Writers' Conference, One Story, and the Kenyon Review Writers Workshop. Her book reviews and author interviews can be found in numerous outlets, including Chicago Review of Books, Foglifter, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, and The Rumpus. Since 2023, she’s covered 100+ books at Three or More Stars, her Substack of book recommendations. She also serves as a volunteer fiction screener for Ploughshares.

Born to a Slovene-American family in Pittsburgh and raised on North Carolina’s Outer Banks, she lives with her husband in rural Oregon, where she's taught in public secondary schools for the better part of a decade.
